You are the host of a special event. There are 20 people coming and you have spent the entire last two weeks getting ready for the event. You have a fantastic meal planned and, as the host, you have done everything to ensure that your guests are happen and well satisfied when they arrive at your home. Now that they are here, you are in the kitchen finishing dinner. Your kids, spouse or even just a sign nicely plastered on the front door directs individuals. You are in the kitchen, cooking.
The problem with this situation is that you just are not doing one of the most important parts of being a perfect host. That is, of course, socializing with your family and friends! You need to spend some time enjoying the company of each person that is coming into your home. You need to spend some time talking with them and getting them into the home and comfortable. The host should greet people at the door and welcome them into the home. If it is the first time they have come to your home, you should give them a brief tour so that they are familiar with everyone and everything. Introduce them to other guests. Get them a drink.
If you are spending all of your time in the kitchen, chances are good your guests are missing out on the one thing they came to the event for: your company. People do not want to stare at a television or just sit with a cup in their hand smiling at others they do not know. They really do expect you to spend time with them.
It can seem impossible to find a balance between the kitchen and the guests. This is why it is often best to have help in preparing meals so that you can be outside enjoying your guests. In addition to this, you also want to make sure that your guests are able to come with you into the kitchen to chat while you work.
Spend some time preparing as much as you can in advance so that you can easily spend time with your guests when they arrive and throughout the evening. Take time to interact with every person that comes to your home. This is a very important part of the process of being a successful host. The good news is that after some practice it gets easier.
