As you plan your event, one thing often comes to mind. Should you use paper plates for the event or should you break out that little used china, wash it off and dazzle your guests with it? There are definitely benefits for either option. As the host of the event, it is up to you to choose the right way to plan your event. Start out by making the right decisions for you. If it just would make life easier and help you to get out of the kitchen by having paper plates then go that route. On the other hand, if you want to take the extra time for the special event, then china is a great way to go.
There are some situations where you really want the meal to be special. For example, you may be celebrating someone's anniversary. You may be enjoying Christmas together. Or, there may be the expectation of formal dinner plates such as at a formal adult dinner party. In these situations you likely want to get out your best set of dishes and use them for your guests. The good news is that most people are more than willing to help with clearing up the table and even washing the dishes. A good host will not usually let them do this, but the offer of help is always nice.
What about paper plates? Can they ever work? There are plenty of occasions when there is no reason not to consider paper plates for the event. If there are a large group of people, it may be a must to purchase a stack of 50 paper plates instead of trying to have enough formal dinner ware for everyone at the event. If the event is served buffet style, it is also acceptable to use paper plates rather than breakable plates. Most events held outdoors also warrant the use of paper or at least plastic plates.
If you are unsure about using paper or china, make the decision that is right for you. Paper plates make for easy clean up which means you can spend more time with your family, enjoying your guests rather than in the kitchen scrubbing dishes. On the other hand, you definitely want to take into consideration those times when it can be very nice to take out the good stuff. Make a decision that is right for your special event and your guests.
